Al-Hiyari: Participation in Top International Competitions Opens Horizons for Jordanian Olive Oil
Al-Kayyali Calls on Partners to Unite Efforts and Work to Improve the Efficiency of the Olive Sector
The first forum for the quality of Jordanian olive products was launched today, Thursday, to enhance cooperation and communication among sector producers and make Jordan a center of expertise and marketing for the sector.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mohammad Al-Hiyari, emphasized that olive cultivation has significantly developed in Jordan, with the cultivated area increasing to approximately 600,000 dunams in 2023.
During his sponsorship of the forum on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, Al-Hiyari stated that the number of olive trees planted has reached 11 million, representing 72% of the area planted with fruit trees.
He continued, “The quantity of olive fruit production during the 2023/2024 season was about 170,000 tons; 140,000 tons were used in olive presses for oil extraction, producing 26,000 tons, while 30,000 tons were converted for table oil production.”
According to Al-Hiyari, olives are an integral part of our heritage and agricultural culture in Jordan. He confirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture will continue to support the sector and its producers, emphasizing the benefits and opportunities that Jordanian olive oil brings.
He highlighted the necessity of “enabling our producers to participate in international competitions, which contributes to enhancing our global image and position, and also introduces the unique features and wonderful taste of Jordanian olive oil that competes with the best oils in the world.”
He pointed out that participation in top international competitions opens new horizons for Jordanian olive oil and helps improve its quality and competitiveness.
For his part, the President of the Jordanian Association of Olive Product Exporters, Obada Al-Kayyali, expressed his gratitude to the supporters, confirming their significant role in developing and enhancing the olive sector.
He called on partners to unite efforts and work to improve the efficiency of the olive sector through cooperation and exchange of experiences to achieve more success and ensure the prosperity of this vital industry for years to come.
The Jordanian Association of Olive Product Exporters is a non-profit organization established to support and develop the sector and its products in Jordan, as well as export high-quality products to global markets.
Today, Thursday, the announcement was made about the launch of the late engineer Mohammad Mashhoor Al-Jazi Award, in honor of his memory and in appreciation of his significant contributions to the Jordanian olive sector.
This award aims to support and encourage farmers and innovators in this field, motivating them to present their best creativity and excellence in Jordanian olive products.
At the conclusion of the forum, the association honored the sponsors, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Amman Chamber of Industry, the Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries, and the Mercy Corps.
